Chapter 7

Winston was brooding by the lake Thursday afternoon after his tumbling workshop. He'd gotten another "Hank" letter from Maria. Winston was outfitted in full cowboy attire, and he was baking in the late afternoon sun. He pulled off his oversize boots and threw them on the dock. Then he rolled up his jeans and let his feet dangle in the water.

Winston pulled the letter out of his jeans pocket and read through it again.

My grandma's got real cattle on the ranch—and pigs and horses. . . . Today Hank taught me how to lasso the horns of a real live steer (!). I never thought I'd like life on a ranch so much. Maybe I'll never come hack (ha, ha).
